Woman dies in crash as man flees scene

A woman who was travelling as a passenger in a car has died in a crash in Surrey.
The crash involving a grey Mercedes E220 happened in Buxton Lane, Caterham, before 03:00 BST.
A 34-year-old woman died at the scene while two other passengers, a man and a woman in their 30s, were injured.
A fourth occupant of the car fled the scene, police said.
The two injured passengers were taken to hospital, and the woman is in a life-threatening condition.
Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported, police said.
The person who fled the scene is described as a white man, aged between 30 and 40 and of stocky build. He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a small bag, police added.
Road closures are in place at the Salmons Lane West roundabout while investigations continue.
“We ask you try and avoid the area as these closures will be in place for several hours today," a police spokesman said.
