People in Skegness want plans to cut maintenance for the town's North Parade Bowling Greens to be reconsidered.

Councillor Carl Macey, said there had been no conversation with residents and businesses and the news came as a 鈥渂it of a shock".

The competition-level greens host the English Bowls Federation National Championships in August every year.

East Lindsey District Council said the the Town council and the Bowls Federation had been consulted before a decision in July.

The council said reducing maintenance was one of a series of options as it looks to save money.

Mr Macey said: 鈥淲e know that it is one of the best weeks of the year in Skegness with most of our hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts being very full over that week.

鈥淲ithout these competitions, it is going to have a negative impact on the local economy, on our bars, our restaurants and so on. It is something that we don鈥檛 want to see happen.鈥

Mr Macey who has set up a petition against the proposal, said the decision would impact a lot of local businesses.

The bowling greens have been in use for more than 100 years, with competitors and spectators making their way to the town each year.
