People had to be evacuated from nearby buildings when a fire broke out in a fish and chip shop.
Cleveland Fire Brigade was called to Acklam Fish Bar on Acklam Road, in Middlesbrough, at just before 10:30 GMT.
No one was hurt and the fire was quickly put out, a spokesperson said.
Kirsty Legg, who works at nearby Morgan's Bakery, said several shops, including hers, were evacuated by Cleveland Police for about 45 minutes.
