Londoners urged to embrace World Car Free Day
City Hall has urged Londoners to ditch their cars and 鈥渞eclaim our streets鈥 on World Car Free Day in September.
The global event will include events in neighbourhoods across the capital, with residents encouraged to apply to their local council to temporarily close their streets to through traffic between 20 and 22 September.
Sadiq Khan鈥檚 walking and cycling commissioner Will Norman said: 鈥淭he mayor and I are committed to enabling even more Londoners to incorporate walking and cycling into their daily lives."
World Car Free Day itself takes place on 22 September.
Mr Norman added: 鈥淲e are delighted to once again be supporting the activation of play streets on Car Free Day, a unique opportunity to transform streets into playful and social spaces, where all members of the community can come together to scoot, bike, walk, space hop and socialise safely.
鈥淚 encourage all Londoners to join in the fun and reclaim our streets with this fantastic initiative, which supports our aim for a greener, fairer London for all.鈥
