Driver dies after crash and fire on main road
A driver has died after their car hit a tree and caught fire on a main road in Shropshire in the early hours of Sunday.
The crash, involving a black Seat Arona, happened on the A41 near Tong, Shifnal, at about 01:00 BST, police said.
The driver died at the scene.
No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles are thought to be involved, said West Mercia Police, which is appealing for witnesses.
It happened on the stretch of A41 between Lizard Mill Farm junction and Pickmere Roundabout, which remains closed.
Shropshire Council said it expected the closure to remain in place for several hours.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances to the scene, and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
