A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering a 90-year-old who was found dead in her home.

The body of Myra Thompson was found by emergency services at a house on Bolde Way in Spital, Wirral, on Tuesday morning.

Jane Hill, 51, of Norwich Drive in Upton, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court accused of murder and stealing 拢60 cash from the victim ten days earlier.

Ms Hill, wearing a grey tracksuit and with her dyed red and tied back in a pony tail, trembled in the dock as she confirmed her name, age and address.

Remanded in custody

District Judge Timothy Boswell said the case would be sent up to the Crown Court and further remanded her in custody to appear there on Tuesday.

Police said a 48-year-old man who was also arrested had been released with no further action regarding the death but he remains under investigation for theft.

Earlier this week the force said it had voluntarily referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as officers had been investigating a recent allegation of theft.
