A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after two pedestrians were left with life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened in Manchester city centre at about 22:30 BST on Saturday, police said.

The 30-year-old Toyota Yaris driver was travelling down Whitworth Street West, coming off Deansgate, when she lost control of her car, colliding with a Vauxhall Corsa before mounting the kerb and hitting a Kia Sportage.

Two pedestrians, an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were also struck and both remain in hospital.

Det Con Simon Venguedasalon said there would have been "plenty of witnesses" to the "serious collision" due to the time at which it happened.

He urged anyone with information to come forward.
