Two people have been injured after a suspected shooting in Grimsby.

Humberside Police said a gun was believed to have been fired at about 22:45 BST in the Cooper Road area on Monday.

The pair received "medical attention" for their injuries, which were not thought to be life threatening, the force said.

An investigation is ongoing and a scene guard remains in place. Detectives said those involved were "known to each other".

The force said an armed response unit was sent to the scene following reports of the suspected shooting and officers were conducting a "thorough search of the area" including carrying out house to house inquiries.

Ch Insp Jayne Goodens said: 鈥淲hilst I understand incidents of this nature cause concern and shock to the local community, I鈥檇 like to reassure local residents that we believe that those involved are known to each other.

鈥淲e are in the early stages of our investigation, exploring a number of lines of inquiries to understand the full circumstances around the incident.

"Locals to the area can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days whilst we continue our inquiries.

鈥淚 can confirm that two people have received medical attention for injuries which are not thought to be life threatening. A window and door from a property on Cooper Street was also damaged during the incident."

She appealed for anyone with information including dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of the area to contact the force.
