A teenager has been jailed for stabbing a woman in the head in the street.
The 17-year-old carried out the unprovoked attack on the 37-year-old victim in Church Place, Brighton, East Sussex, on 25 May.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, possessing an offensive weapon and possessing a knife in a public place.
At Brighton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, he was given a two-year detention and training order.
Det Con Manni Guffogg said: 鈥淭his deeply concerning attack, following the most minor of provocations, highlights the serious impact of knife crime and underscores the need for continued efforts to educate individuals about the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife.
鈥淲e need to ensure people understand that perceived slights must never be answered with this kind of brutal and reckless violence.
鈥淭he victim in this matter should be commended for providing her evidence to the police in extremely challenging circumstances."
