Councillor appointed as West Midlands deputy mayor
- Published
The deputy leader of Birmingham City Council has been appointed as the new deputy mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
Councillor Sharon Thompson, who was elected to Birmingham City Council in 2014, previously chaired the WMCA’s homelessness taskforce.
Her role as deputy mayor will see her support the mayor in delivering the region’s key priorities and act as an ambassador for the West Midlands, the authority said.
The new mayor was elected in May after winning the tight race for office with a margin of 1,508 votes.
