Two teenagers charged over Ewell machete threat

Two teenagers have been charged with multiple offences following a pursuit by Surrey and Met police officers in Ewell, Surrey, on Saturday.

A police helicopter was also used in the early hours chase.

It was launched at about 01.30 GMT after a moped - believed to have been involved in an incident earlier that day in which a man was threatened with a machete - was spotted.

Surrey Police said the moped was brought to a stop and two people were arrested.

A man, aged 18, and a 17-year-old boy, from Ewell, were charged with affray, two counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place, and going equipped for theft of a motor vehicle.

They were also charged with two counts of possessing criminal property, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.

Both appeared at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The adult male was remanded in custody to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Guildford Crown Court on 18 April.

The 17-year-old, who pleaded guilty to all the offences, was released on conditional bail and will be electronically monitored.

He will be sentenced at Guildford Magistrates鈥 Court on 17 April.
