A battery-operated mobility carriage, owned by the former Dame of Sark, has sold at auction for £2,500.

The lot was once the property of Dame Sibyl Hathaway, who was Dame of Sark from 1927 until her death in 1974 - spanning the reigns of four monarchs.

She famously refused to evacuate the island during German Occupation and persuaded other residents to remain.

The auction house said the carriage had been one of three known examples of its kind and had spent time in Guernsey's former motor museum and in private collections after Dame Sibyl's death.
