Poet and musician Antony Szmierek has said he was inspired to write a song about one of Greater Manchester's most enigmatic pieces of architecture because he was "obsessed with it".

His latest single The Great Pyramid of Stockport was inspired by the former Co-op building, which has stood by the M60 in the town since the early 1990s.

Szmierek said it had been a looming presence throughout his childhood and he and his brother had dreamed of "sliding down it" when they were young.

However, he told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Manchester he was now interested it what the pyramid "tells us about the greater human experience".
