Surrey Police said they believe a body recovered from the River Thames is that of a missing 92-year-old man.

The body was found on Tuesday during a search by officers and a police helicopter.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "The man has not been formally identified, though we believe him to be the 92-year-old man that went missing from Shepperton."

Police said enquiries were ongoing regarding the circumstances of the death.

It is currently not believed to be suspicious or to involve a third party.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

"Our thoughts remain with the man's family," the police said.
