A police officer has appeared in court accused of a rape while he was off duty in January 2022.

David Parsons, 28, a constable in Worcestershire, is currently suspended from the West Mercia force.

He appeared in front of magistrates in Birmingham on Tuesday morning. He is set to appear next at the city's crown court in August.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said they could make no further comment until court proceedings concluded.

It added the force had joined the UK-wide earlier this year.

Run by Crimestoppers, the service allows members of the public to report concerns about police staff anonymously.
