Police in Shrewsbury have arrested two men on suspicion of affray following reports of rival football fans fighting.
The men, aged 18 and 36, were detained after officers were called to a fight between a group of men on Ellesmere Road at 20:50 GMT on Friday.
The men were arrested as the group left Ellesmere Road and both remain in custody, police said.
The arrests happened ahead of Shrewsbury Town FC's fixture against Wrexham in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
West Mercia Police said anti-social and criminal behaviour would not be tolerated before or during the match.
The force added it maintained a large presence in the town for high-profile games and would consider banning orders for anyone committing a football-related offence.
"We take a firm approach to anyone who seeks to ruin the fun for the real football fans," said Supt Stu Bill.
