Charity shop volunteer stole more than 拢10,000
A former Marie Curie charity shop volunteer has been spared prison after he admitted stealing more than 拢10,000 while working there.
Naser Pasha stole the cash from the shop in Shipley between September 2021 and October 2022.
Pasha, 40, from Bradford, was given an 18-month suspended jail sentence at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday.
He was told he would have to pay the charity compensation at a rate of 拢150 a month for the next three years.
The court was told that Pasha, who had no previous convictions, started volunteering at the shop in August 2021.
He was trusted to take the daily takings and deposit them into a bank鈥檚 night safe.
An audit later revealed that over a 13-month period Pasha had stolen a total of 拢10,639.46 from the takings.
'You had been trusted'
When Pasha, of Hazel Walk, Allerton, was arrested by police in February 2023 he said he was sorry, the court was told.
Sentencing Pasha, Recorder Simon Jackson KC said: 鈥淭his was not sophisticated but it was a persistent theft at a time when you had been trusted despite being taken on for modest duties.
鈥淵ou would have known that what you were doing was wrong.
"There is no suggestion that you lived a lavish lifestyle, but you stole the money from a charity trying to support people with serious illness."
Pasha was also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and will have to comply with a curfew restricting him to his home every night.
