Road reopens after rail bridge works
- Published
A railway bridge has reopened after it closed for electrification work to the line.
Newton Lane, between Wistow and Wigston, has been closed by Network Rail since October.
Work to raise the bridge was carried out so that overhead wires could pass underneath.
The wires will eventually power East Midlands Railway’s new bi-mode trains through the area as part of the Midland Main Line upgrade.
Businesses at Wistow Rural Centre, near Kibworth Harcourt, previously said they feared they might not survive due to the closure.
Station Road, between Wistow and Great Glen, was also shut for bridge works.
Network Rail confirmed the bridge opened on Friday, and said any compensation claims over the closure are still being reviewed by their claims team.
