A beach is going to be shut for four days to allow levelling works to take place, a council has announced.

Weymouth beach in Dorset will be closed between the Pavilion Theatre and the Jubilee Clock from Monday 26 February to Thursday 29 February, Weymouth Town Council said.

The beach will remain closed overnight, and the exit and entry points to the beach will also be barriered off.

The council said the closure will mean the beach can be levelled before the beach huts go back on, as well as replenish sand that has been moved around by high tides and bad weather.

The closure will allow for the work to be carried out safely, and to protect the public whilst heavy machinery is in operation, the council said.

The beach will close at 08:00 GMT on Monday 26 February, then reopen at 19:00 GMT on Thursday 29 February.
