Former Conservative Montgomeryshire MP Delwyn Williams has died at the age of 85.

He broke 99 years of Liberal Party control in the constituency with his victory over Emlyn Hooson in 1979.

He lost the seat to Liberal Alex Carlile at the following general election, in 1983.

Also a solicitor and company director, Welsh Conservative President and ex-Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies described Mr Williams as having a "larger than life personality" that was "impossible not to like".
