A man in his 30s has been stabbed outside a McDonald's in Surrey.

Emergency services responded to reports of a man who had been stabbed in the chest and stomach in Station Road, Redhill, at about 15:40 GMT on Tuesday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and is in a stable condition, police said.

Reigate and Banstead Sgt Rafa Alvarez: 鈥淲e would like to reassure the local community that we are treating this extremely seriously and a number of enquiries are underway to establish all the facts.鈥

Police said the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Lloyds Bank and was described as mixed race, slim, 5ft 4in tall with brown curly hair.

He is thought to be in his late teens and was wearing a black hoodie with a large white logo on the back and grey jogging bottoms at the time of the assault.

Sgt Alvarez added: 鈥淥fficers will be conducting additional patrols in the area today and engaging with the community.

鈥淲e know this is an unsettling time and I鈥檇 encourage you to speak with officers about your concerns.鈥

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who was driving along Station Road between 15:30 and 15:50 on Tuesday is urged to contact police.
