Six people have been injured in a suspected arson attack.
The fire at Chatsworth Court, South Shields, was spotted at about 04:00 BST on Thursday.
Those injured were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and five of them have since been discharged.
No one has been arrested in connection with the fire but, appealing for information, Northumbria Police said officers are continuing to investigate.
Several people were evacuated from neighbouring properties, with South Tyneside Council staff supporting those affected by the blaze.
