A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit with a bat in a Derby park.

The victim was assaulted in Arboretum Park, in Rose Hill Street, at about 21:00 BST on Friday, Derbyshire Police said.

The force said a 30-year-old man had been approached by a group of unknown youths before he was struck with a bat.

He was later taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Officers said the youths were described as Asian, and aged between 15-20.

The main attacker was understood to have been wearing a long white thobe - a kaftan robe.
