Woman dies and man critical after house fire

A woman has died in a house fire in Nottinghamshire.

Fire crews were called to reports of a blaze on Bridle Road, Burton Joyce, after neighbours saw smoke coming from the house shortly before 15:30 BST on Saturday.

Firefighters found two people inside the home.

The woman died in the fire and the man was taken to hospital by air ambulance where he remained in a critical condition, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

The cause of the fire was accidental, they added.

"On behalf of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, I would like to send my sincere condolences to the friends and family of the individuals involved in this incident, " group Manager, Tom Archer, said.

"We will be in the area in the coming week to offer support to local residents."
