Drivers are being warned of possible delays on the A19 during an 11-week scheme to improve safety on the road.

National Highways will be carrying out work at each of the central reservation gaps between Knayton and Ellerbeck.

Four of the gaps will be closed permanently, while work will also be done to upgrade barriers and improve signage and road markings along the route.

The work will be carried out in six phases between 11 August and 1 November, with a number of lane closures put in place.

Phase one will see lane two closed on both the north and southbound carriageways between the Marigold lay-by and the lay-by to the north of Harbrough Farm from 11 August to 7 September.

The second phase will run from 8 September to 5 October, with lane two closed in both directions between Woundales Farm and the Marigold lay-by.

During phase three lane one will be closed north and south between Woundales Farm and the Marigold lay-by from 6 to 19 October.

Phase four will run from 20 to 27 October, with lane one closed in either direction between the Marigold lay-by and the lay-by to the north of Harbrough Farm.

The lane closures will be in place 24 hours a day.

Phases five and six will involve overnight road closures.

During phase five the road will be shut northbound between South Kilvington and Osmotherly on 28 October while phase six will see the southbound carriageway shut between Osmotherly and South Kilvington on 1 November.
