A seven-year-old boy has died after a crash on a motorway on Tuesday, police have confirmed.

Avon and Somerset Police said the collision happened on the M4 between junction 18 for Bath and junction 19 for Bristol, at about 13:00 GMT on 26 March.

A Volkswagen Polo and Scania lorry collided with four other passengers of the car being taken to hospital.

Two have since been discharged, while the others remain in hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

"Our thoughts are with his family and they continue to be supported by a specially-trained officer," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police.

"We are appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you saw the incident or have any dashcam footage which could help," they added.
