A Shrewsbury-wide music festival spread across 25 different venues has been awarded 拢40,000.

Loopfest said the aim of the event was "bringing this Shropshire town to life by filling as many venues as possible with music".

The first festival was launched in 2022 and organiser Jamie Smith said the money from Arts Council England would allow it to support local artists throughout the year.

He said the event cost up to 拢70,000 to stage and came with "a lot of financial risk".

The three-day festival takes place between 3 and 5 May and this year there will be four performances at Shrewsbury Castle.

Mr Smith said it was a "massive task" to organise and fund it.

He said he hoped to boost the town's live music scene, but he also wanted to "raise funds to support community-based projects".

Venues this year also include Albert's Shed, The Square and St Mary's Church.
