Guns found in rucksack left on roadside
Firearms have been found inside a rucksack on the side of a road, police have said.
Five self-loading pistols were discovered by officers alongside ammunition on East Prescot Road, Liverpool, at 20:00 GMT on Wednesday, Merseyside Police said.
The weapons are being examined by specialist officers.
Det Ch Insp Paul McVeigh said they could have put residents in 鈥渟erious danger鈥.
No arrests have yet been made.
Det Ch Insp McVeigh reassured residents that an inquiry had begun to "find out who stored these weapons".
He said: "The possession of dangerous weapons will not be tolerated."
