The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning which is in place until 07:00 BST.

Although not all areas will be affected, where thunderstorms do occur, they could bring frequent lightning, gusty winds, and possibly large hail.

The narrow band of rain is predicted to push eastwards quickly, with the worst of the weather clearing by around breakfast time on Monday.

Potential disruptions

Despite its brief duration, the downpours could be intense, with 20-40mm of rain likely to fall within an hour in some places.

A few areas could see as much as 60mm before the rain clears.

Met 脡ireann also issued an overnight Status Orange rain warning for counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo in the Republic of Ireland.

A separate yellow rain warning has also been issued for most of the country.

It lasts until 08:00 on Monday, with thundery downpours expected to move eastward across the country overnight.

The heavy rain could lead to hazardous driving conditions due to spray and sudden flooding.
