An injured dog has been put down after being found tied to a post in a Leicestershire town.
At about 15:10 BST on Sunday Leicestershire Police appealed for the public to stay away from Dalby Road in Melton Mowbray while they responded to a report of a distressed dog tied to a post.
The dog, believed to be an American bulldog, was found with significant injuries and a vet decided it should be euthanised.
The force said it was investigating the incident as the unnecessary suffering of an animal and a 39-year-old man attended a voluntary interview regarding the incident on Monday.
It added inquiries were ongoing and anyone with information has been asked to make contact.
