Students are being supported after a teenager died following a fall from a university campus block of flats.

Matthew Gilbert, 19, was taken to Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales in the early hours of 14 April.

But police said the student died in hospital on Wednesday following his fall from a sixth-floor window at Swansea University's Singleton campus.

The students' union said it was working closely with colleagues in the university to provide support to family and students.

"Our advice and support centre team are available to any students impacted by this incident, along with the university's student support services," it said.

Mia Brown, 19, lives in the flat from which Matthew Gilbert fell, but she had not met the law and criminology student.

"It's quite chilling," she said.

"It doesn't feel real. We've had support because people found him, people knew him, people may have had classes with him.

鈥淎nyone can reach out, no matter how big or small, we have got someone to talk to.

"I was hoping he would survive. It's just horrible."

Swansea University said its thoughts and condolences were with Matthew's family.
