A security alert at the Henry Jones playing fields in east Belfast has ended.

Police said a suspicious object which was found on Tuesday evening turned out to be nothing untoward.

Church Road was closed on Tuesday evening between Manse Road and Marlborough Heights after the object was found.

Police have now left the scene, and the roads have fully re-opened.

The pitches are used by the East Belfast Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club, among other sports.

It is the latest in a series of security alerts at the Belfast City Council-owned facility since 2020.

Speaking before police said the latest alert had been nothing untoward, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons said the alerts were "hugely frustrating" and "not fair".
