Volunteer appeal to help winter food collection
- Published
A charity is calling for volunteers to help co-ordinate its winter food donation campaign.
FareShare Sussex & Surrey wants people to greet shoppers and help pack items this November as it aims to gather 18 tonnes of food in just three days.
It will be collecting customer donations of dry goods and cupboard essentials at 10 large Tesco stores across East and West Sussex and Surrey from 28 to 30 November.
Dan Slatter, charity CEO, said they "couldn鈥檛 do the important work we do without our brilliant volunteers".
All donations will top up the charity鈥檚 existing supplies to help feed those in deprived communities across Sussex and Surrey this winter, including over the Christmas period.
Stores taking part are in Lewes, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham, Littlehampton, Burgess Hill, Gatwick, Crawley, Haslemere and Guildford.
Emma Selby, the charity's volunteer manager, said: "The generosity of people is truly astounding and it鈥檚 a great way of getting into the Christmas spirit.鈥
The charity has depots in Brighton and Guildford.
Louise Taylor, who is a volunteer, said: 鈥淚 know Christmas can be a really hard time for people, but the donations can make a real tangible difference."
