A 14-year-old cyclist has suffered life-threatening injuries after the bicycle he was riding crashed with a car.

Dorset Police said it was called to Huntick Road in Lytchett Minster, Dorset, at 07:44 BST.

Sgt Tracey Downer said officers were trying to establish the full circumstances of the collision, which happened near the Courtyard Craft Centre and involved a white Volkswagen Up.

The force appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

The road has been closed to allow emergency services to respond and for officers to examine the scene.

"Our thoughts are very much with the child who was seriously injured as a result of this collision and his family at this difficult time for them all," said Sgt Downer.
