A burglar who forced his way into a 71-year-old man's home and threatened him with a piece of wood has been jailed.

Ashley Moss, 36, of Earsham Close, Hull, was charged with aggravated burglary following the incident on 16 February.

Moss stole 拢500 from the victim鈥檚 wallet, cigarettes and tobacco before fleeing the scene, police said.

He was sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday to seven years and two months in prison after pleading guilty.

PC Nicola Knight, of Humberside Police, said: "Any intrusion into a person's property is bound to be a terrifying ordeal, but the involvement of a weapon understandably left the victim shaken.

"I hope the outcome provides the public with some reassurance that incidents like this will not be tolerated."
