A woman was left blind in one eye after being punched by her partner who accused her of cheating.

Rhys Buchanan, 23, has been jailed for three years and three months.

West Midlands Police said he had been in a relationship with the victim when he attacked her in a fit of jealousy in May 2022.

The single punch left the victim in hospital for several days where surgeons were unable to save her sight, officers added.

Buchanan, of Pershore Road in Selly Park, Birmingham, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.

Investigating officer Kathryn Burns said violence against women in domestic situations was a devastating crime.

“This young woman has been left with a life-changing injury which has affected her not only physically but psychologically and emotionally," she said.
