An extra 拢1.2m is to go towards restoring a 19th Century windmill in Lincolnshire.

Alford Windmill will be brought back into use with a new visitors centre built in the grounds.

An adjoining Miller's Cottage will be turned into holiday accommodation and office space.

The Grade One listed building is expected to be open in 2026.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, more than 拢1.1m of Levelling Up funding has been allocated for the refurbishment.

Lincolnshire County Council has matched the funding with its grant.

The offer of the money is expected to be accepted at an East Lindsey District Council meeting on 9 July.

The windmill is one of three projects in the area receiving 拢8m of government funding, including restoration work on the 16th Century Alford Manor House and the Spilsby Sessions House, a former court building turned into a theatre.

When work on the windmill is completed the ownership of the site will be transferred to Alford Town Council.
