The Prince of Wales has shocked a mother pulling a life-sized model horse on a marathon walk after her teenage daughter took her life.

Emma Webb's 16-year-old daughter Brodie, who was a promising equestrian, died in March 2020.

Prince William embraced Emma after unexpectedly joining her on her walk from Chepstow, Monmouthshire to London to raise money and awareness of mental health.

They met in Slough, Berkshire, on day 13 of her 19-day trek of 160 miles (257km).

Emma, from Newport, was amazed when the prince turned up while she was taking photos.

In a video she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, she screamed in shock as she realised it was him.

She shouted "oh my gosh", before he hugged her.

"You surprised me there," she added.

The prince then shook hands and chatted with her friends who were on the walk with her, before stroking the horse.

Emma said that since Brodie's death, she had pointed to other young people towards help after they contacted her with suicidal thoughts.

She said she wanted people who are struggling to know they are not alone.

Her daughter's love of horses and showjumping inspired her to drag the wheeled resin horse, weighing more than 30kg (4st 10lb) to the International Horse Show, which they used to attend together before she died.

She is aiming to walk through central London on 13 December, when it will be particularly busy with Christmas shoppers.
