A man has died after a Jaguar lost control and mounted the pavement while overtaking, police have said.

The pedestrian, in his 40s, was hit at about 18:45 GMT on Chew Moor Lane in Bolton on Monday and died at the scene, Greater Manchester Police said.

The driver, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.

A force spokeswoman said the vehicle, a blue Jaguar XE, was believed to have been overtaking another vehicle when it lost control and mounted the pavement.

The pedestrian died despite the efforts of emergency services, she added.

Those with any footage of the crash, including dashacam, phone or doorbell footage, have been asked to contact police.
