Man dies after mobility scooter crash in Devon

A man has died after being injured in a collision between a car and a mobility scooter in Torquay, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the local man, 79, was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on 28 August but had passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

The police force said the collision, involving a Citroen C3 and mobility scooter, took place at the town's Newton Road junction with Shiphay Lane at 09:15 BST.

The road was closed while investigation work was carried out the scene, added police.

"As a result of the collision a 79-year-old local man was taken to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with injuries thought to be life-threatening," said the force.

"Sadly, he has since passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

"His next of kin are aware."
