Woman, 83, killed and four people injured in two-car crash
An 83-year-old woman has died and four people have been injured following a two-car crash in the Scottish Borders.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the smash involving a black Seat Altea and a grey Honda CRV on the A7 Abbotsford Road in Galashiels at 10:55.
The driver of the Seat was taken to Borders General Hospital and pronounced dead at short time later.
The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital along with three passengers - a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The road was closed and reopened at about 15:00.
Sgt Jennifer Niven said: 鈥淥ur thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
