Two men have been arrested after a man was seriously injured in an assault in Plymouth, police said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Courtenay Street at about 00:35 GMT on Friday to a report of an altercation.

The force said a man, aged 35, suffered a serious injury and was taken to hospital.

Two men, both aged 21, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain police custody, it said.

The force said a scene guard remained in place and it has asked anybody with information to get in touch.
