Man arrested as house fire being treated as arson

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life after a house fire.

Essex Police was called to Elizabeth Way in Basildon at about 06:00 BST on Wednesday, after the blaze was reported by the fire service.

The man arrested remains in police custody.

"We worked alongside the fire service to establish its cause, and we now believe it was started deliberately and are treating it as arson," the force said.

It asked for anyone with information, CCTV, dash-cam or other footage to come forward.
