A dog has been killed when it was electrocuted by a live railway track next to a beach in East Sussex.
It happened at the Volk鈥檚 Electric Railway in Brighton at about 12:30 GMT.
Brighton & Hove City Council said the dog was believed to have been electrocuted by a live rail while it was off its lead.
鈥淲e believe this was simply a tragic accident, and have no reason to believe the railway鈥檚 equipment or staff were in any way at fault,鈥 a council spokesman said.
鈥淲e understand the dog鈥檚 owner is very distressed and our hearts go out to them.鈥
An investigation has been launched by the council.
The Volk鈥檚 Electric Railway first opened in 1883.
