Family makes fresh appeal over pensioner's death
Members of the family of an 80-year-old man who died after being attacked in his own home in 2015 have made a renewed appeal for information.
Tommy Ward was seriously injured at his home on Salisbury Road, in Maltby, Rotherham, on 1 October 2015 during an incident in which about 拢30,000 in cash was also believed to have been stolen. He died in hospital four months later.
Last month, a 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Mr Ward's death and was bailed pending further inquiries.
In a statement, his family appealed for anyone with information about who was responsible for his death to "come forward".
In the statement. issued through South Yorkshire Police, they said: "It might be a minor thing to you, but it could be a major part of catching the person or persons who did this to him."
"We would not want any other families to go through what we have been going through. It's heartbreaking," they said.
鈥淵ou should be safe in your home, not be beaten and left for dead. We can't imagine how terrified he was."
A total of 12 people have been arrested in connection with Mr Ward's death since 2016, but no-one has been charged.
