Several sheds at an allotment in a North Yorkshire town were broken into before a fire was started which destroyed two of the buildings, police have said.

Firefighters were first alerted to the incident at the Stokesley Allotments, near Rose Hill Way, at about 22:15 BST on Tuesday, according to police.

The suspects, who were believed to have broken into the back of the allotment yard, did not take anything before they started a blaze which caused "complete fire damage" to at least two sheds, officers said.

They were believed to have gained access to the allotments from the nearby A172, a police spokesperson added.

Anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour or individuals in the area between 21:00 BST and 22:15 BST on Tuesday was asked to get in touch with police.
