A four-year-old girl is in critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car outside a primary school in Glasgow.

The accident happened outside Blackfriars Primary on Cumberland Street, in the Gorbals area of the city, at about 15:00 on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended the scene and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children.

The 57-year-old man driving a white MG HS car was not injured.

Sgt Chris Hoggans said: “Our thoughts are with everyone involved and our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened."
