Cannabis plants thought to be worth more than £200,000 have been seized from a disused building in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Police discovered the plants at the building in Station Road, Glenfield, on Monday.

The plants are estimated to have a potential street value of £228,000, police said.

Two men, 19 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and have since been charged.

Police said the National Grid attended the location, which is next to a petrol station, to isolate the power to the unit, as the "risk of fire from the dodgy electrics were a potential recipe for disaster".

The 19-year-old has since been charged with cultivating and producing cannabis alongside the 29-year-old, who was also charged with producing cannabis.

The pair appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and will next appear at the city's crown court in April.
