Windows warning over billowing smoke from fire
Residents have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed after smoke from a large fire billowed across part of their town.
The blaze broke out at premises in the Valley Street North area of Darlington at about 17:40 BST.
Five appliances and an aerial ladder attended, and fire crew are expected to remain at the scene for some time.
The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service urged people to stay away from the area.
A spokesman said: "We ask that businesses and properties in the area keep their doors and windows closed due to the level of smoke.
"Motorists who have to travel near the area should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed."
