Armed police were called to a residential road after a gun was reported stolen during a house burglary.

Officers said they were called to reports of suspicious activity on Rigbourne Hill in Beccles at 12:57 BST, before receiving a further call reporting a burglary on the same street.

Suffolk Police said a firearm was reported stolen but that its officers later seized a weapon.

One parent said she was "petrified" when she was told her children's nearby school went "under lockdown advised by the police".

"I literally got my boots on and ran down to the school," said Damaris Shiplee, 47.

Ms Shiplee said that, once she arrived, children were being allowed to leave the school grounds.

Once home they felt "scared" and "wanted to lock the door", she told the 大象传媒.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police added: "There have been no injuries reported.

"No arrests have been made at this time but police continue to investigate and will remain in the area."
